Weekly Covid morbidity continued downward trend in Latvia

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Last week, from October 10 to October 16, the number of new cases of Covid-19 decreased by 22.8% in Latvia compared to the previous week and 5,189 new cases of Covid-19 were reported. The number of patients in hospitals has also decreased by 8%, according to data from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) October 17.

The SPKC said that the decline in the infection reproduction factor (R) to 0.85 indicates a slower spread of infectious disease compared with the previous week.

During the previous week, the number of cases of Covid-19 increased only in Zemgale, while in the other regions it continued to decline. In nearly all age groups, the incidence of Covid-19 continues to decrease, but in the 60-79-year group, the decrease is no longer pronounced.

The SPKC reminded the public that the adjusted vaccines against Covid-19 are available in family doctors' practices and vaccination offices, and it is currently possible to vaccinate against influenza at the same time.
