Beāte Bēvalde, a spokeswoman for the association, said: "408 children wrote their letters, these letters were handed over to us, we, in turn, translated them, put them on our website, and then it was possible for the people of Latvia to donate for specific gifts to make children's dreams come true.
"We've managed to collect the necessary gifts for almost all the kids, but all those that weren't donated we pack up ourselves. So all the 408 kids we'll go to will have gifts. And this time, the Christmas Express goes to a location 15 kilometers from the Ukrainian-Russian border, where children spend most of their time in the basement, meaning the desires were quite simple -- forehead lights, powerbanks, phones, because they want to communicate with their mum or dad if they still have them.”
The Express is expected to travel to Ukraine on Saturday, January 6.
During the festivities, the donation activity was very encouraging, the association said.
Clothing has been donated the most in recent months. Ukrainians are still waiting for warm jackets, jumpers, and warm shoes, because after the November call that warm clothes were needed, people emptied their closets, bringing summer clothes.
Currently, hygiene products are needed for both men and women, as well as instant coffee, sweets, and chemical body warmers. But the most, Ukrainians need money and drones. They can be donated to in the “projects” section of the society's website.
