The date coincides with the beginning of the UN’s annual General Assembly session Wednesday in New York City.
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania came back aboard the international league of nations just a month after the collapse of the Soviet Union in August 1991.
Along with membership came representative offices inside UN headquarters in New York, Geneva and Vienna, as well as participation in the UN’s vast array of sub-agencies, in sectors as diverse as food and agriculture, chemical weapons prohibition treaties, education and science affairs, gender equality and intangible cultural heritage.
