Illegal TV providers cost state millions, claims anti-piracy association

Illegal TV providers that hide behind offshore companies are costing state millions in unpaid taxes, Dace Kotzeva, head of the anti-piracy association No to Piracy in Latvia!, told Latvian Television Wednesday.

According to research by Arnis Sauka from the Stockholm School of Economics, at least 100,000 households in Latvia are using illegal TV - a figure that makes up almost one fifth of the market.

Kotzeva said most of the clients do not even know they're using illegal TV.

The association aims to fight not the end user but the people offering illegal content, stealing it and not paying taxes to the state.

They are planning on creating an online map in which Latvians will be able to find local TV service providers operating legally.
