The Riga City Council's donation of EUR 200,000 from the local government budget is intended to help provide residents of the Ukrainian city of Mykolayiv with drinking water. The city has long suffered from rocket bombings carried out by Russia. Since April, the water supply has been disrupted in Mykolayiv and all residents of the city have had difficulty accessing drinking water. About half a million people lived in the city before the Russian attack.
In response to the request expressed by the city administration of Mykolayiv, Riga City Council deputies supported the granting of a EUR 200,000 donation to the foundation “Ziedot.lv” with a view to purchasing the special transport, equipment and materials necessary for the emergency repairs of the “Mykolaivvodokanal” city company in order to restore the operation of the water supply network.
The donation of EUR 10,000 by Rīga Forests was also supported. It will also go to the foundation “Ziedot.lv” and will likely be directed to purchase generators and heat blowers.
The Riga City Council also decided to support the repeated donation of Rīga public transport buses to the city of Kyiv. At the end of April, 11 such buses already arrived in Kyiv.
