Orange alert for flood in Daugava near Pļaviņas

In the Daugava, new ice masses continue to jam up near Pļaviņas, disrupting the flow of water and causing rapid fluctuations in the water levels.

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center issued the orange alert for flooding last night.

The situation hasn't changed much throughout the night - ice congestion persists, but water levels have dropped a little when compared to the middle of the night. In Pļaviņas and at the Zeļķu Bridge at 6:20 in the morning water levels were about 40 centimeters lower than in the middle of the night, but in Jēkabpils it has climbed about 15 centimeters over the course of the night.

The warning is in effect until today's 15:00 in the afternoon. This applies to the Daugava section from Jēkabpils to Pļaviņas.
