Ainaži has the most snow in Latvia

Currently, the thickest snow layer is in Ainaži at 29 centimeters, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center, LETA reported on December 9.

The snow layer tops 20 centimeters also in Skrīveri and Bauska, followed by Sigulda, Sīļi, and Madona, with 18-19 centimeters of snow. In Rīga, it is about 16 centimeters.

The thinnest snow blanket is on the coast of Kurzeme – in Liepāja with 7 centimeters, but there is almost no snow in Ventspils.

After the snow, the sky has gradually begun to clear and the air temperature is cooling rapidly in many parts of Latvia, particularly in the west. The lowest air temperature is currently in Rucava, at -13 C.

At 7:00 in Daugavpils, in the east of the country the air temperature was just under zero.
