Heatwave hits Latvia

On Saturday southern air flows will bring extremely hot air to Latvia. On Sunday and Monday the heat will subside, resuming afterwards and reaching temperatures of up to +34 or +35 degrees, according to the Global Forecast System forecast.

On Saturday the air temperature will be +30..+34 degrees Celsius, and about a degree lower in the coastal regions. The day will be mostly sunny with some clouds that can bring rain or thunder, which could 

Sunday will be cloudier and a bit colder at +22..+25 degrees, while in southern Latgale the temperature can still reach +32 degrees.

On Monday the temperature will be +24..+29 degrees while southeastern wind will bring the heat back starting Tuesday.

According to the current forecast, the temperatures can reach +30..+35 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday, after which the temperatures will be dropping again.

It'll be foggy at night, with the air temperature being above +20 degrees on the warmest nights. 

People are asked to abstain from making fire in the woods and swamps and to be careful with cigarette butts, matches and other things that can start a fire. 

People should avoid prolonged physical exertions in the sun or in hot premises. Children should not be left in cars on their own, and in cases of severe hyperthermia people are urged to call the ambulance - 113.
