Residents reported flooded streets in Saldus and Tukums on social media.
In the western and central parts of Latvia, as well as over the Gulf of Riga, a major lightning event was recorded Monday evening. Due to the thunderstorm, approximately 5,200 people were left without electricity according to the electricity distributor Sadales tīkls, especially around Saldus, Kuldīga, and Tukums.
According to information from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVGMC), a red alert was announced in Kurzeme on Monday evening, with extreme thunder and rainstorms.
Rain will continue on Tuesday, and it will be cooler with air temperatures between +16 C to +20 C.
