The rotating funnel cloud had been reaching towards the ground without in the end touching it. No damage was caused. A similar phenomenon was spotted near Rīga airport a few days earlier.

On Monday evening, July 8, a whirlwind was forming in the vicinity of Iecava, according to eyewitness accounts on social media, reported LSM's Latvian service on July 8.
