Bringing the Barricades to the big screen

Take note – story published 3 years and 8 months ago

LSM has aready featured extensive coverage of the events of the Barricades in Latvia 30 years ago. The latest addition is a short film published online which looks at those events in the context of a forthcoming feature film which is set at the time.

Janvāris (January) directed by Viesturs Kairišs will attempt to bring the drama of the barricades to a contemporary audience. The 40-minute Vimeo film about this debates the various challenges of doing so in a manner that is both accurate and engaging, particularly with regard to thse too young to have participated in the Barricades themselves.

The video has English-language subtitles.

Produced by Mistrus Media as a co-production of Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, the movie has received support from the European co-production fund Eurimages and you can find out more about it at this Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/JanuaryFilm/

In addition, you can watch LTV's recent news report (below) about the start of filming for the project, which involves extensive historical reconstruction.
