Notable pastor resigns from Lutheran Church

A notable pastor has resigned from the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church in which he served for 36 years, reported Latvian Radio February 14. 

Juris Rubenis, a prominent spiritual thinker in Latvia, is known for the 2016 book, Him and Her. Relationships. Love. Sex. It caused an uproar in the religious community, and religious figures appearing on Latvian Christian Radio even invited people to burn it. 

Archbishop Jānis Vanags accepted his resignation and said that Rubenis has resigned for personal reasons. 

Meanwhile pastor Indulis Paičs wrote on Facebook wrote that Rubenis had been subject to an "aggressive campaign", which culminated during last year's Holy Week. 

Rubenis has not left the church per se, of which he remains a member.
