A selection of weekend events in Latvia.

Rīga Street Food Festival

On January 12 the Old Town will host the third annual Rīga Street Food Festival, organized by Live Rīga. Fourteen chefs of Rīga's restaurants will fill the cobblestone streets near the Freedom Monument (Kaļķu street) with an offering of warm and exotic food.

This time the festival territory will be twice as large, featuring the street artist Kiwie who will accentuate the ties between street food and street art.

Jozef van Wissem at Ģertrūdes ielas teātris

Dutch composer and lute player Jozef van Wissem - known for writing the score to the Jim Jarmusch film, Only Lovers Left Alive, - is performing January 12 at 8 p.m. at the Ģertrūdes ielas teātris in Rīga, Ģertrūdes Street 101a.

He'll be accompanied by Anete Kozlovska.

"NO! NO! NO! to the conventional, to all the evil and despair that reign here, NO to conformism and materialism!"

Former Rīga resident Boris Lurie was one of the pioneering figures in the avant-garde NO!art movement. Thanks to the Boris Lurie Art Foundation in New York, the Rīga Bourse will host an exhibition of the work of Lurie and his associates, as well as Baltic phenomena related to NO!art.

It opens January 12. Read more about it here. It is open until March 10.
