'Rīgas Ritmi' festival to jazz it up this week

For many years now, the beginning of July in Riga has been filled with jazz rhythms, as the Riga Rhythms (Rīgas ritmi) festival is always present. This year, the 24th edition of the festival will also see both foreign stars and local musicians shine, offering a wide range of music.

The central concert venue will be the Riga Cathedral Garden, but the concerts will take place in four different venues in Riga. Riga Rhythms will start on Wednesday, July 3, and run until Saturday, with 11 concerts on the program.

For several years now, the central concert venue of "Riga Rhythms" has been the Riga Cathedral Garden, which the organizers consider to be the most suitable for the festival atmosphere. It is located in the very heart of Riga, and has a special old-world atmosphere and excellent acoustics for open-air concerts. On July 4 and 5, the festival's main guest artists will perform there.

Riga Rhythms will also become a parade of new Latvian jazz musicians.

Free concerts will take place at three venues in Riga - the Noass Cultural Centre, the Riga Jazz Lounge at the Latvija Hotel and the brand-new Lounge Fenikss. Indriķis Veitners, Head of the Jazz Department at the Academy of Music, says: "You can call all the names: Matīss Žilinskis, who just a week ago successfully graduated from the Jazz Department of the Academy of Music. Ella Zīriņi, who is studying in Holland. Vadims Dmitrijevs, who is about to release a new album. Also Toms Rudzinskis, Klāvs Ābols. I'm very happy that the festival has such a good line-up, I mean, it's a stage for young jazz musicians."

The Riga Rhythms Festival starts Wednesday and will offer a total of 11 concerts over four days at four different venues. There will also be masterclasses led by the festival's main guest artists at the Latvian Radio 1 studio.
