Latvian basketball team loses to Philippines

In the Paris Olympics qualification tournament, the Latvian men's national basketball team lost 80:89 to the Philippines in the last game of the group round on Wednesday in Riga.

The Latvians are still in with a chance of qualifying for the Olympics, as they cannot finish lower than second place in the group, which secures a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Rodions Kurucs was the top scorer for Latvia with 18 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Dāvis Bertāns, Jānis Strēlnieks and Kristers Zoriks scored 10 points each. Justin Brownlee scored 26 points for the Philippines, who also grabbed nine rebounds and had nine assists. The Philippines hadn't beaten a European team in 64 years.

Latvia started the group round with a win over Georgia, while the Philippines played their first match on Wednesday. The top two teams in the group will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday.
