According to data published by the Central Statistical Bureau September 14, in July 2023 the number of non-resident and resident visitors comprised 373.8 thousand, which is 8.6 % more than in July 2022. Compared with July last year, the number of nights spent by visitors comprised 703.9 thousand, which is 14.1 % more.
In the first seven months of this year, the number of non-resident and resident visitors comprised 1.4 million, which is 18.4 % more than in the seven months of 2022, however, it is still 15.1 % less than in the seven months of 2019, during the time before the pandemic.
In July 2019 the number of tourists from Russia was the second largest after Germany. But once tourists from Russia are excluded, the number of visitors hosted in July 2023 is actually 1.4 % higher than in July 2019.
In July 2023 non-resident arrivals at the tourist accommodation establishments accounted for 57.5 % or 214.8 thousand people, which is 18.3 % more than in July a year ago, but 20.3 % less than before the pandemic in July 2019. The number of nights spent by non-residents, compared to July 2022, has grown by 21.7 % and comprised 405.4 thousand. Non-residents on average spent 1.9 nights at the tourist accommodation.
The greatest number of non-resident travellers came from Lithuania (48.4 thousand), Estonia (32.4 thousand), Finland (26.5 thousand), Germany (21.7 thousand), United Kingdom (8.5 thousand), Poland (8.3 thousand) and the USA (8.2 thousand).
Most non-residents were hosted in Riga – 54.5 %, Jūrmala – 14.9 %, Liepāja – 3.8 %, Sigulda municipality – 3.2 %, Ventspils – 2.9%, Limbaži municipality – 2.7 %, Cēsis municipality – 2.2 % and Mārupe municipality – 2.1 %.
In July 2023 tourist accommodation establishments hosted 158.9 thousand resident visitors, which is 2.2 % less than in July 2022, but 21.8 % more than in July 2019. The number of nights spent by them comprised 298.5 thousand, which is a rise of 5.2 %, compared to July last year.
Latvian visitors stayed mostly in Riga (15.7 %), Liepāja (7 %), Jūrmala (6.6 %), Limbaži municipality (5.4 %), Cēsis municipality (5 %), Talsi municipality (4.5 %), Kuldīga municipality (4.4 %) and Sigulda municipality (4.1 %).
