Vanšu bridge to be more pedestrian-friendly

It is planned to widen the sidewalks and set up a cycle path on both sides of the Vanšu Bridge in Rīga, Rīga City Council's Outdoors and Mobility Department representatives said in an online event on Wednesday, LETA reports.

A new carriageway is planned to be built on the bridge, damaged cables replaced and structures reinforced. It is also planned to repair the concrete surfaces of the pylons and supports and replace damaged joints and bearings.

Repairs are intended to significantly prolong the longevity of the bridge, the department's representatives said.

Repairs are planned throughout the bridge route starting from Slokas Street in Pārdaugava.

New solutions are also aimed at public transport.

The construction project “Development of the Vanšu bridge building design in the minimum composition” is prepared by the association of suppliers “Vertex projekti” Ltd and “Inženierbūve”.
