More transit passengers at Riga International Airport in July

Gradually increasing the frequency of flights, passenger numbers serviced at Riga International Airport reached 23% of last year's volume in July. The number of transit and transfer passengers is also growing, the airport said August 5.

In July, 187.4 thousand passengers were serviced at the airport, which is about 132 thousand travelers more than a month earlier. Overall, compared to last year, the number of passengers served at Riga airport has fallen significantly: in the first seven months of 2020, only 1.5 million passengers were serviced, a drop of more than 65% compared to last year's corresponding period.

The majority, or 66% of passengers served in July, were transported by the national airline airBaltic, 13% by the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair and 11% by the Hungarian low-cost carrier WizzAir.

The number of passengers using the airport “Riga” as a connection point for further travel is increasing gradually: the number of transit and transit passengers in July represented 24% of the total number of passengers.

The most popular destinations from Riga in July were Oslo, London, Helsinki, Frankfurt and Tallinn, while the most packed planes were on holiday routes to Greece, Cyprus and the south of France.

In July, 3278 flights were operated at Riga airport. A total of more than 22 thousand flights have been carried out in the first seven months of this year. This is 55.8% less than in the corresponding period last year.

Seven airlines currently operate flights from Riga to 49 destinations.
