“If we talk about what won the election, Russia [its interests] won the election. And it comes back,” Bordāns said. When remarked that Saeima elections have been held in accordance with democratic principles, the politician stated: “Russia is also able to win democratic elections.”
He claimed there were four parties funded directly by Russian money. “I think it's about four,” Bordan said, both without naming specific parties and without providing any justification for such a statement.
Bordāns wished well to the pro-European forces in the next government and expressed hope that the next Justice Minister would be from the New Unity party. “Of all other parties, I think, it would be a huge threat to the rule of law,” the politician said.
Commenting on the work of the departing government, he said: “We haven't gone to compromise. But despite what hasn't succeeded much, some things have succeeded.”
