Rīga will collect raked leaves for free

This year as usual, from November 2 to December 1, Riga Municipality will offer residents 32 locations to drop off collected tree and shrub leaves free of charge.

The drop-off will take place mainly on Saturdays and Sundays, but in some locations also on some working days.

The municipality asked people to note that leaves cannot be dropped off in bags - they will have to be poured out at the drop-off points. Also, the emptied bags have to be collected by each resident afterwards. Leaves must not be brought and left beforehand, nor should they be contaminated with other waste.

On each of the days of the leaf collection project, representatives of the Maintenance Department of the Department of Outdoor Space and Mobility will be present to monitor the situation, coordinate the leaf drop-off, control the progress of the specialised waste collection vehicles and, where possible, assist residents in removing leaves from their bags.

During the project, as well as before and after the project dates, the Riga Municipal Police will patrol the leaf collection points in order to prevent or restrict unauthorised dumping of leaves.

Last year, 2,768 tonnes of leaves were disposed of by residents, while in 2022 - 2,968 tonnes.

The drop-off locations are found at the riga.lv website.
