Daily Covid-19 case count hits another new record high in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Latvia recorded over 3,000 new cases of Covid-19 infection once again October 27, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

3,206 new cases of Covid-19 were added to the total Wednesday, the highest daily total since the start of the pandemic. Of that number, 2,314 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 892 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 208,783.

Of 27,089 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 11.8% were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose from a record 1,686.2 Tuesday to a new 1,737.4 record Wednesday.

Unfortunately, there was also confirmation of 33 more Covid-related deaths, the third-highest daily death toll of the pandemic. All victims were over the age of 40. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,109.

The level of hospitalizations continues to be a key indicator as hospitals are stretched to full capacity. Tuesday data show that 1,463 patients are being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvia's hospitals, again the largest figure since the start of the pandemic. Of that number, 172 patients are displaying serious symptoms.

The epidemiological situation in all three Baltic states continues to be serious. Lithuania recorded over 3,500 cases Wednesday and Estonia recorded more than 2,000 cases.
