Five more Covid-19 deaths Monday in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

On February 21, 2022, Latvia recorded 3,819 new cases of Covid-19, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC). Monday's figure is usually the lowest of the week due to fewer tests being carried out on Sundays.

Of the newly-confirmed cases, 1,334 cases were recorded in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people, while 2,485 were fully vaccinated.

Out of 8,445 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 45.2% were positive. The 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 of the population rose slightly from 7,175 Sunday to 7,184, suggesting that the approximate peak of the infection wave may possibly have been reached. Since the beginning of the pandemic 589,763 Covid-19 cases have now been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.

Five more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. All of the victims were aged over 60 years. One of the dead was fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 5,113.

Sunday hospital data from the National Health Service show 1,229 patients being treated in hospitals (up on  1,132 on Saturday). 149 patients were admitted and 24 discharged during the previous 24 hours. 84 patients were displaying serious symptoms.
