Although the Ministry of Health had planned to offer relaxed restrictions in the catering sector in the second week of August, currently the Minister for Health Ilze Vinķele (Development/For!) wants to wait for the weekend infection rates, Latvian Television reported August 7.

In an interview on LTV, Viņķele said: "Weekend results must be awaited to see if we can move in the direction of [relaxing] limits in place or step back to stricter measures,” Viņķele said.

At the beginning of August, a new COVID-19 outbreak was discovered in Murjāņi Sports Gymnasium. Viņķele said that among these young people, some had been in competition abroad.

She also said that the previous day's data showed that the source of some newly discovered infections had not yet been identified. Sometimes epidemiologists need several days to find out the source of the infection, Viņkele added.
