Tuesday brings 27 Covid-related deaths in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Latvia recorded over 2,000 new cases of Covid-19 infection once again October 26, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

2,117 new cases of Covid-19 were added to the total Tuesday. Of that total number, 1,521 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 596 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 205,577.

Of 23,089 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 9.2% were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose from 1,647 Monday to a record 1,686.2 Tuesday.

Unfortunately, there was also confirmation of 27 more Covid-related deaths. Three of the victims were aged under 50 years. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,076.

The level of hospitalizations continues to be a key indicator as hospitals are stretched to full capacity. Monday data show that 1,444 patients are being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvia's hospitals, again the largest figure since the start of the pandemic. Of that number, 160 patients are displaying serious symptoms.

The epidemiological situation in all three Baltic states continues to be serious. Lithuania recorded over 2,300 cases Tuesday and Estonia recorded nearly 1,200 cases.
