In the last week, from 11 July to 17 July, the number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 increased by 42% – from 3867 to 5493, the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said July 18.

On average, 785 cases were recorded daily. The number of patients in hospitals increased slightly, with an average of 19 patients per day.

According to the SPKC, the number of newly identified cases is increasing in all age groups, while maintaining a growing trend for socially active people aged 20-69.

The increase in Covid-19 cases is observed throughout Latvia, however, the incidence in Riga and Vidzeme is above the average of Latvia.

There is currently a slight decrease in the average morbidity of the European Union and the European Economic Area, which increased from the beginning of June, but Latvia's morbidity rates are significantly below the EU average.
