In total, 964 people have contacted coordinators, and communication in more details has been held with 439 people.
According to Rūklis, 20 families or 45 people have already returned to Latvia, and 31 other families or 88 persons said that they would plan to return if the situation is favorable,
Astrīda Leščinska, the coordinator for Latgale region, said that the reasons for return are different, but all families have a strong will to live in their native country, and invest their work, experience and knowledge in Latvia.
As reported, the Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry's pilot project to support Latvians' remigration got under way this past March by the establishment of a network of five regional remigration coordinators.
The coordinators have to maintain regular contacts with potential remigrants who are advised to send their inquiries to [email protected] or, if they wish to get in touch with a specific coordinator, see his or her contact information on the ministry's website.
The pilot project will last until December 31, 2018.
