Number of Latvian visas issued stable

Take note – story published 6 years ago

Last year, the demand for Latvian visas grew 0.34%, with around 172 thousand visas issued, or two thousand more than in 2016, reports Latvian Radio.

The number of declined visas was at a relatively high 1.66%, due to increasing security and illegal immigration risks, says the Foreign Ministry's State Secretary, Andrejs Pildegovičs.

While the increase of issued visas may seem small, it was achieved despite that the EU instated a visa-free regime for Ukrainian and Georgian citizens, says Pildegovičs.

The number of visas issued in India grew an astonishing 48%. The figure is likely related to the number of Indian students studying in Latvia.
