The start of the evening will be Squarepusher, the electronica artist and bass guitar player from the UK, one of the most prominent acts of the IDM scene. He'll be presenting an audio-visual show along with material from his new album Damogen Furies.
The same evening will feature Powell, another act from the UK playing robust, noisy and structurally unexpected dance music. A number of musicians from the newly created Shape platform for innovative music will also perform - including trance innovator Lorenzo Senni, Portuguese afro-house act DJ Nigga Fox, the darkly sounding Pasajera Oscura duet, as well as local act Mārtiņs Roķis alias N1L, whose Wrong Headspace was recently named the best EP of the week by Boomkat.
The festival will continue next week. On October 9 and 10 it'll take place at the Daile music hall in Rīga, offering various genres for the listeners to take in and ponder, featuring acts such as Frederic Rzewski, Steve Noble, James Holden, Christoph Heemann and others.
Skaņu Mežs is taking place for the 13th time. The goal of the festival is to show the newest in music, showing experimental sound from the furthest reaches of contemporary music, along with dance music, improvisation, as well as radical forms of electronica and rock music.
Electronic Beats has called Skaņu Mežs one of the ten most awaited experimental music events in Europe, while The Wire, reviewing the 2014 edition of the festival, simply said that Latvia has a lot to boast about.
