The Skaņu mežs 2016 (Sound Forest 2016) experimental music festival is taking place from October 13 to October 16. Organizer Rihards Endriksons said it's very popular this year.

"We may have to stop selling tickets as the Daile music venue will not be able to take in so many visitors," Endriksons told LTV Thursday.

The festival program this year includes 21 performances ranging from 15 minutes to five hours in length. Six of them will incorporate music with the visual arts.

Sound Forest opens on Thursday with a free program at the Rīga Bourse where pianist R. Andrew Lee will perform Dennis Johnson's November (1959), considered to be one of the first minimalist composition.

On October 14 and 15 the festival will move to the Daile music hall with Zebra Katz, King Midas Sound + Fennesz, as well as Tropic of Cancer, and others performing.

On October 16, in collaboration with the Goethe Institute in Riga and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, the festival will move to the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre with the participation of M.E.S.H. and Thomas Lehn.

On November 12 the festival will return to the music hall Daile, concluding with performances by Autechre and noise musician and curator Russell Haswell, as well as Norwegian band Supersilent, and a DJ set by Andy Maddocks.
