Strong support for EU-wide border controls

Take note – story published 8 years ago

The vast majority of Latvians, or 70 percent, back the idea to resume border controls in the whole EU, including the Schengen Area, with 35 percent fully supporting the proposal and 35 percent tending to support the border controls, shows a survey conducted by TNS pollster for Latvia's LNT commercial TV channel.

Only 24 percent of Latvians rejected renewed border controls in the EU, including the Schengen Area, with 14 percent of respondents tending to reject the idea and 10 percent completely disapproving of such plans.

Another 6 percent of respondents had no definitive position on the issue.

TNS conducted the online poll for LNT from November 17-29, interviewing 800 residents of Latvia aged 18 to 55.
