First snow in Rīga marks a cold week ahead

Take note – story published 8 years ago

On Monday morning the first snow fell over the Latvian capital, and it has already covered many of the roofs white. This is the year's first snow in Rīga.

The air temperature at nights will be mostly around -1..-6 degrees Celsius this week, and down to -7..-10 during the coldest nights in Vidzeme.

It'll be -3..+3 during the day this week.

Monday and Tuesday will have some snow, and in places of Vidzeme and Kurzeme there'll more precipitation resulting in a layer of snow, while there'll be little snow afterwards and it'll be quite sunny.

On early next week there'll be more precipitation - mostly rain - and the air temperature will stay above zero.

As of now, there's a good chance that in early December the air temperature will reach +10.

The so-called black ice is forming on many roads so drivers are invited to take extra care when driving and stick to a speed suitable for the road conditions.
