Baltic Dance Platform to move Rīga in February

From February 9 to 11, “Baltic Dance Platform 2024” will take place in Rīga – an event co-curated by the three Baltic States, which will introduce the latest contemporary dance performances and artists of the Baltic region to a wide audience and cultural professionals, organizers said December 14.

This will be the third such cooperation event between Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, and this time the honor, responsibility, and challenge to organize it is entrusted to dance organizations representing Latvia.

The Baltic dance platform will bring together contemporary dance art representatives and artists in close interaction over three days. The program will feature nine contemporary dance performances (three from each Baltic country) and presentations by 15 artists (five from each Baltic country). For viewers, it will be an opportunity to get to know powerful dance works or the intentions of up-and-coming works selected by an international panel.

Latvia will be represented on the Baltic dance platform by the choreographer Līga Ūbele with a movement lecture “Untitled,” Krišjānis Sants and Erik Eriksen (Sweden) with the dance show “Whirl,” Jette Loona Hermanis, Anna Ansone with the performative act “Frostbite” and five artists who will present their creative activities and ideas – the association “IevaKrish,” the association “SIXTH,” Jana Jacuka, Sintija Žīgure, Ramona Galkina.

The Baltic Dance Platform is an initiative launched in 2018 by three Baltic Dance organizations – the Lithuanian Dance Information Center, the Estonian Dance Center “Soltumatu Tantsu lava” (STL) and the Latvian Dance Information Center. The Baltic Dance Platform aims to promote the development of a cooperation network and cooperation initiatives among professional dance artists, dance organizations, and institutions in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as well as to promote the link between professionals of the Baltic and the world dance industry to implement the presence of the Baltic Dance at international level.
