Dance troupes across Latvia continue festival preparations

Preparations for this year's Latvian Song and Dance Festival are continuing across the country, with Skrunda TV reporting on dancers literally being put through their paces in Kuldīga region to prove their readiness for the event.

Juries have already evaluated more than half of the participants of the Dance Festival. This weekend, the dance groups of Kuldīga region appeared before the jury.

The jury evaluated the technical and artistic performance of the dances, their sesne of rhythm, their folk costumes and the overall impression they created.

"Of course, it is very important for us to make sure that the lines are straight and that the steps are accurate, so that we can create those patterns [of dancers] more accurately at the Daugava Stadium, but the most important thing, in my opinion, is emotions. I wanted to smile along myself, and those sparks in the eyes, and especially for those gray-haired gentlemen," admitted the chairman of the jury, Jānis Purviņš.

The assessment of the joint repertoires will end at the beginning of May. A total of 707 dance groups are preparing for the festival.

The XXVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival will be held in Riga from June 30 to July 9, 2023, celebrating one hundred and fifty years of the Song Festival tradition.
