A new documentary from director Jāzeps Podnieks has been premiered at the Kino Bize cinema in Rīga, which takes a look at the phenomenon of contemporary witchcraft in Latvia.

The film's director and protagonist Jāzeps Podnieks in a little more than an hour-long film story goes to visit the six most renowned witches in Latvia to find answers to the most important things in life.

"Ragana" (Witch) is the director's first full-length documentary and was filmed on an old-school cassette camera over the course of a year.

The premiere was reportedly a memorable event itself, featuring various spells and rituals before the screening. 'Ragana' will be shown again on Sunday, June 5 at 18:00 (Latvian with English subtitles) .
