Latvian Song and Dance Celebration highlight: The shape of things to come

Take note – story published 5 years ago

Today's XXVI Song and XVI Dance Celebration highlight is a moment of history that will serve to whet the appetite for the grand closing concert that is still to come.

On July 5, choirs are gathering at the newly-renovated Mežaparks song festival grounds to rehearse for the climactic July 8 closing concert. It gives some idea of what to expect, while being a marvellous spectacle in its own right.

The day and the occasion was launched with the classic “Dziedot dzimu, dziedot augu”, the raising of the Latvian flag and a rendition of the national anthem. This is only the first of several rehearsal sessions. The real thing should be quite something.
