World film, classical music and Brazilian street music are among things you can do in Latvia this weekend.

World film

The fourth annual Riga Pasaules Film festival (Riga World Film festival) takes place April 27-30 at the Kino Bize movie house.

The festival features about a dozen non-fiction films. Organizers say this year's program intends to contribute to a discussion that values the creative potential of happenstance, discovery, and surprise as central aspects of filmmaking. 

American seasons 

At 7 p.m. Friday at the Great Guild Hall, violinist Jana Ozoliņa will perform the Vivaldi-inspired concerto The American Four Seasons by the founding father of American minimalism, Philip Glass. Alongside with her, the Sinfonietta Rīga will be performing a string piece by Korean composer Unsuk Chin as well as a new chamber concerto by Oskars Herliņš. 

Brazilian street music

Meanwhile the Trompete bar in Riga will at 9 p.m. Sunday will resound with Brazilian street music. The Cariocas band will play Choro, a type of Brazilian street music, born in the 19th century in Rio de Janeiro.
