Latvian Raimonds Tomsons named world's best sommelier

Latvia's wine culture may not be well-known just yet, but that is changing with news that Latvian Raimonds Tomsons has been named the world's best sommelier at a prestigious international competition.

According to French media, Tomsons received the accolade February 12 at the Councours du Meilleur Sommelier du Monde in Paris.

It is the second time Tomsons has made the final, and as the video above shows, he was certainly delighted to claim the winner's laurels. He is director of Barents Wine Collectors  and Co-Founder at WineTeach, and regularly hosts tasting sessions and other wine education events at restaurants in Latvia.
