Latvia at Bologna Children's Book Fair

From April 8 to 11, the renowned annual children's book fair will take place in the Italian city of Bologna, with Latvian publishers and authors of children's books participating on a stand run by the "Latvian Literature" promotional platform.

A highlight will be the presentation of an award to artist Aleksandra Runde for the best debut in children's literature. The artist received the award for the book "What to do if you are naked in the city" (publishing house "Jāņa Rozes apgāds"), for which she created the text, illustrations and even the design of the book.

Before the award presentation on April 8 at 15:10 "Book Lovers' Café" market (Gallery hall 25-25) there will be a discussion in which Latvia will be represented by Renāte Punka, the publisher of the book.

"The last few years have confirmed that children's literature and book art are one of Latvian books' strongest points. This award is not only a great honor but also a motivation for all of us to continue working so that our children's literature gets into the hands of more and more readers everywhere in the world," said Ildze Jansone, representative of the "Latvian Literature" platform.

The book market will also have a symbolic bookshelf, “The BRAW Amazing Bookshelf”, on which the 100 best works submitted for the Bologna Book Market "BolognaRagazzi Award" will be stacked, including two works by Latvian authors - Egīls Zirņis' "What is happening in the Zoo at night" and "En den dino šoko loko tīno" by Māris Runguļis.

Award-winning Latvian children's book artist Elīna Brasliņa will be on hand April 9 at 17:00 at the Latvian stand (Hall no. 30, stand E14-F13) where there will be a reception supported by the Embassy of Latvia in Italy, the company "Jelgava Typography" and the publishing house "Liels un mazs", which will also celebrate its 20th anniversary.
