Latvian literature grant winners announced

The Latvian Literature platform which promotes Latvian writers and publishers worldwide has announced the recipients of its first round of grants for the year.

On March 8, 2024 the Commission of experts gathered and assessed 48 applications from foreign publishers and 38 applications from translators for publishing literary works of Latvian authors abroad. This program was financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and supported projects in different languages.

The Commission was composed of five experts: translator Dace Meiere, translator Dens Dimiņš, executive manager of the platform "Latvian Literature" Rita Dementjeva, SIA “Zvaignze ABC” rights manager Santa Svaža, and poet, translator, editor, member of the literary industry expert commission of the State Cultural Capital Fund Ingmāra Balode.

In total, 36 project proposals from foreign publishers and 25 proposals from translators were awarded. Please see the list of supported projects below. Together experts decided to support foreign publishers with amount of 93 180 EUR and translators with amount of 57 463 EUR.
