LNB dāvinājumā no Ukrainas saņēmusi 120 grāmatu

Latvian National Library now houses 120 Ukrainian books

Take note – story published 1 year and 11 months ago

On October 12 , 120 books issued in Ukraine were handed over to the Latvian National Library (LNB) . This is the initiative of Ukraine's first lady Olena Zelenska, the “Ukrainian Book Shelf,” which takes place in a number of European countries, Latvian Television reported Wednesday.

LNB's Development Department Director Katrīna Kukaine told Latvian Radio that the range of books is very wide and some of them will also come to other Latvian libraries: “Some of the books are in several copies, which we will then also hand over to other Latvian libraries, where there is a larger Ukrainian community, more demand.”

The gift was handed to the library by Ukraine's ambassador to Latvia Oleksandr Mishchenko.

“There are both history books and books of various classicists. A whole anthology of Lesya Ukrainka, which is an absolute classic. Also books for people to familiarise themselves with the cities of Ukraine, traditions, and cultural heritage, which are also in English. So Latvian readers will also be able to read. But mostly it is with the idea that Ukrainian readers – those who have taken shelter in Latvia – have books in their mother tongue. A relationship with the homeland while they are temporarily away. And here are children's and teenage books, which are very important. We receive a lot of requests from children and families,” said Kukaine

LNB also currently has a number of thematic exposures dedicated to Ukraine's history, culture, and traditions.
