Stamp to honor Latvian linguist Jānis Endzelīns

On February 22, a new stamp will be released in honor of the 150th birthday of Latvian linguist Jānis Endzelīns (1873–1961), Latvian Postal Service (LP) said.

The nominal value of the new stamp is EUR 1.83 and it is intended for sending consignments up to 20 grams to Group 3 countries. The stamp will be issued in 25,000 copies. A 500-copy special envelope is also issued.

The designer of the new stamp and envelope is the artist Lilija Dinere.

Jānis Endzelīns is one of the founders of Baltic studies as such and is considered the father of Latvian literary language. Endzelīns and another linguist Kārlis Mīlenbahs were the authors of the base entries for the first Latvian language dictionary. 

The new postcard will be available for purchase in the biggest postal departments and the online store of Latvian postal service.
