Nora Ikstena has been one of Latvia's best-known writers, both at home and abroad, for several years. But this year, the publication of her novella Soviet Milk in English from Pereine Press has enabled her to reach a far wider audience. Recently, LSM caught up with her at the London Book Fair.
Kārlis Vērdiņš is a translator and poet, who as the BBC presenter remarks is the author of Come to Me, which has been listed by the Southbank Centre among 50 greatest modern love poems.
During the interview, Ikstena recounts the story behind her novel, while Vērdiņš recites part of his prize-winning poem in Latvian and English.
