A sporty weekend for Latvia

Take note – story published 8 years and 8 months ago

This weekend was rather eventful in terms of sports events, as Rīga is hosting the Group D Phase of Eurobasket 2015 from September 5 to September 10, and the group phase of the Euro 2016 football championship is under way too. Latvia's national football and basketball teams played a game each last weekend.

Lithuanians, whom you might have the chance to meet on the streets of Rīga as there are quite a few visiting, went on to win the Latvian national basketball team with 68:49 on Sunday, filling Arēna Rīga with uproar as matches between neighboring countries are wont to do.

In other news, Latvia also lost at football, where the Latvian national team ceded to Czech Republic with a respectable 2:1. The game was held on Sunday at the Skonto stadium, allowing Czech Republic to advance to the Euro 2016.

Latvia's basketball team will have the chance to retaliate against the Czech Republic for the football loss, as Monday evening Latvia will face Czech Republic at the Arēna Rīga for the next Eurobasket 2015 showdown.
