Dailes teātris ar "ROTKHO" viesojas Parīzē

Dailes Theater delighted with Paris run of Rothko show

Actors of the Dailes Theater have had a very positive experience playing to audiences in Paris. From the end of January to February 9, guest performances of the production "Rotkho" have been taking place at the prestigious Odeon theater in Paris for nine nights, and all performances were sold out.

"The first shows were not easy, because it felt like the audience didn't really understand from which angle to look at it, and there were foreign faces in front of their eyes. Those first two shows felt like we had to beat them a little bit. However, the other four, we have already played six, there was such a fantastic interaction continuously throughout the show," said actor Artūrs Skrastiņš about the experience.

"This audience is extremely knowledgeable, educated, perceptive, and we are really happy to play to them, because we sense feeling, seeing, knowing hearts and eyes," said actress Rēzija Kalniņa.

"Here, the distance to the first row is smaller than in our theater, and it requires such a different focus. At the end of the play in the Paris shows, I would say, [you feel] extreme enthusiasm for our theatrical performance, then I look into the eyes of the audience, specifically people, and you feel such welcome and appreciation that all this is a level that really satisfies us... We are happy about it," said actor Juris Bartkevičs.

On the other hand, actress Vita Vārpiņa remembers that in 2000 she was in Paris for the first time and dreamed "that I could one day play something as an actress in that France. Of course, there was no basis for those thoughts, but I want to say – you need to dream big dreams."
