the Latvian central bank, Latvijas Banka (LB) said June 27 it will release a new collector celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Latvian Song Festival.

According to LB, the coin is officially called "Song Thrills" and will go on sale June 30.

"The coin captures the myriad of emotions that come with the Song Celebration – the sense of togetherness, the musical and emotional excitement, as well as the visual brightness of the wide and diverse spectrum of the colours of the national costumes," says LB.

"We are used to coins spherical in shape," adds LB, presumably meaning "circular" rather than orb-like. "However, the Latvian Song Celebration represents a global cultural phenomenon, and a unique horizontal rectangular shape has been created for this coin," explains LB.

The price of the coin is 89.00 euro; the purchase limit for one buyer will be 3 coins. The mintage of the coin is 4,000. It was made in Romania.

The collector coin will be available for purchase only on the website e-monetas.lv/en from 12:00 on 30 June. Mail delivery or personal pickup from Cashier's Offices of Latvijas Banka at Bezdelīgu iela 3, Riga, will be possible. To smooth out the customer flow on the premises, each customer will be notified of the date when the order becomes available for pickup at the Cashier's Offices of Latvijas Banka.
