Luminor said May 13 that the number of fraudsters' attacks had increased over the past month, creating false Luminor pages in the Google search engine algorithm.
“It's designed as an ad and appears at the top of search results for the user. Following the ad link, the user goes to a website similar to the Luminor Internet bank. When you enter your personal information into it, the fraudster gets to the customer data needed to defraud money. We are actively following the situation, and we have managed to block nearly 30 false websites so far. In cooperation with the State Police, we are carefully investigating each case in order to stop fraudulent charges,” said the Luminor anti-fraud specialist Anrijs Šmits.
“Luminor” recommends not to search for it on Google or other search engines but go directly to the site or app. Customers should be wary of prompts requiring payment card security codes, PIN or SMS codes. The bank will never ask customers to disclose their personal data.
“If a client notices something suspicious on an Internet website, he or she should immediately cease operations and report to the bank and the State Police. The more timely action will be, the more the chance to prevent or detect fraud. Illegal handling of a card can also help to detect the connection of SMS messages about transactions carried out,” explained Šmits.
€20,000 have already been scammed of citizens using fake bank pages recently.
