As expected, large numbers of eager consumers turned out over the weekend for the first days of business at the largest retail store in the Baltic states - under the blue and yellow banner of Swedish chain IKEA.

The store is located on the edge of Rīga's northern border in Stopinu district. It is the largest single store in the Baltic States with a floorspace of ​​34,500 square meters.

It will feature more than 8,000 different Swedish design items and has been accompanied by an online advertising campaign and the appearance of thousands of printed catalogs. 

As soon as doors opened to the public on August 30, business was brisk, though on Sunday September 2, shoppers were evacuated from the store after alarms were activated, According to management, cleaning operations triggered the alarms, but evacuation was orderly and the gigantic retail premises was soon operational again.
