€100m shopping center to be built in Riga by 2019

Construction of a multifunctional shopping center Akropole has been started in Riga, reported LETA news agency on April 7.

The general contractor is Merks company, a subsidiary of Estonian Merko Ehitus. The construction works should be completed by January 2019, said Akropole spokesman Ralfs Vilands.

The multifunctional center will the total area of around 98,000 square meters, including 9,000 square meters of high-class offices. The investments in the project will reach €100.2 million.

The Akropole will comprise a shopping center with the most popular Latvian and global brands, an office building, ice arena and cinema complex, a bowling hall, restaurants and entertainment area for kids.

Merks has been selected as the general contractor for the project. „Such large-scale projects in Latvia are unique,” said Merks board chairman Oskars Ozolins. Merks has decided to engage Lithuanian company Mitnija as partner who has experience in construction of Akropolis centers in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda.

Preparations for construction of the multifunctional shopping and recreation center Akropole were started already last year. Piles for the building were driven by the construction company Skonto Buve.

The shopping mall will be part of Akropolis Group - Lithuanian company that runs a number of shopping centers in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Bulgaria.

The company is the developer of the Akropolis shopping and recreation center in Kaunas, which in 2008 was acquired by a German investment fund.
