Traffic to be restricted in 16 Latvian cities during farmer protests

Protests organized by farmers will take place on February 5 at 11:00 AM in sixteen Latvian cities. Traffic limitations can be in place during the protests as agricultural machinery will be involved, the organization Farmers Saeima said Friday.

The protests are planned in Liepāja, Saldus, Talsi, Tukums, Kuldīga, Jelgava, Dobele, Bauska, Jēkabpils, Aizkraukle, Daugavpils, Rēzekne, Valmiera, Gulbene, Limbaži, and Ogre.

Farmers will gather at pre-determined locations at 10:00 and start moving on different routes in each city at 11:00.

The meeting points are as follows:

  • Liepāja: "Linas Agro" center "Grobiņa"

2) restoration of the 5% reduced VAT rate for fruits and berries grown in Latvia; promotion of competitiveness of the sector;

3) reduction of bureaucracy in the agricultural sector;

4) a broader approach to insurance and working capital programs;

5) waiver of land encumbrances or other restrictions on land use at the national level.
