Rīga to replace and install more electronic bus timetables

Electronic timetables at the public transport stops in Rīga have done their time and do not display information anymore. Public transport company Rīgas Satiksme plans to replace these screens and install new ones throughout the city, Latvian Television reported on February 8.

Text "Information is not available", incorrect clock time, or a dark screen – such is the content of the timetable information at some of Riga's public transport stops. The large screens were set up about 11 years ago, and there are about 10 of them in the city.

Riga residents have different views on the situation.

“Of course bad, it's bad. I want to know what time the bus will be. Now, unfortunately, can't do anything..”

“I can tell I see it for the first time because I usually look at the [printed] timetable at the stop.”

“Transport's very bad now, I was coming today from Mežciems and there was only one trolley bus. The previous one didn't come, but the timetable indicated it would.”

“I'm not bothered, I can look at what's written on those [printed] timetables.”

Big screens have always shown time of departure on schedule rather than the actual situation. They do not currently show any information as they have done their time. The local government company Rīgas Satiksme plans to change them for new ones in the near future.

“I hope they should be in the first quarter of this year. I hope that at some point the winter will completely recede and we will also be able to successfully replace them,” said Baiba Bartaseviča-Feldmane, head of the public relations division of Rīgas Satiksme.

All 10 screens that have served their time will be replaced as well as 50 new ones will be installed, such as on tram lines 5 and 7.
